In may we met to discuss Editing, such an important part of the film world, if an edit isnt quite right then the film will suffer!

One of experienced Editors Nigel Lead the meeting and showing us his edit system set up along with his quick basics of how to run an edit - some of our members who hadnt done much editing then had an opportunity to get hands on with editing! As this went on a few other members discussed their edit set ups and showed just how diverse the range of edit systems within the club, Final Cut, Premiere, Elements, Sony Vegas, Da Vinci Resolve & imovie were just some of the suites mentioned between us,

But which one is best ? there is only one way to find out.......

April Meeting

posted 23 May 2015, 06:38 by Tamsyn O'Connor

Our April meeting was a challenge of film making speed. In two small groups we had one actor and just 30 minutes with our actor to create a short story. This story could be about absolutely anything however within a very short 30 minute shooting time, it couldnt be too complicated!

Both groups worked very very hard to complete the films in the 30 minute time scale and we both just about did it! One group made a short story involving sweets whilst the other went for a short horror sequence involving whistling!

Our actor Mark Newsome was great to work with and enjoyed the evening! At least we hope so! The edits will be taking place at our next meeting to show some other members how some of us edit, hopefully the films then will be finished very soon to show off!

November Meeting

As the Blustery weather Ran into Rochdale we had our November Meeting. Rain lashing down we took refuge in our own personal cinema - well sort of.

The meeting was mainly set around showing recent films we have made, with three short films just out of the edit and little projects from internal members to be shown we all sat in front of the screen to enjoy some cracking films.

We treated ourselves to little looks at Monologue films we shot in Octobers meeting for one thing but also the finished edit of our recent short film ‘ Final Hours ‘ which has been entered into a couple of film festivals coming up and we can’t wait to see how it goes down. We were scheduled to have a little film quiz with the losers facing a film fore fit challenge - but that will have to wait for another day. Heres a couple of stills from the films we saw tonight

October Meeting

We met on the 2nd of October and did a practical challenge set around monologues. We invited two actresses along to the meeting who acted small monologues.

Split into three teams we only had 12minutes per team to shoot our monologue and cutaways. Working against the clock to set the lighting, direct the actor and shoot the piece.

With every group working as hard and fast as they could 5 mini films were shot at a high standard.

Well done everyone! Heres a little sneaky peak of a couple of the films shot!

September Meeting

On the First Thursday of September we had a meeting working around how to use Lighting effectively to re-create a lighting style from a film and use it in a short piece.

The film chosen by a member was an infamous scene from Ridley Scotts ‘ Bladerunner

We had to recreate the lighting used in the ‘ She’s a Replicant ‘ Scene of the film as shown here :

After a bit of moving lights around a small room, some direction to our actress on how to deliver her piece and
almost setting off the fire alarm with our smoke machine - we managed to deliver this :

Not bad, Not bad at all!

With a fantastic year of film making a plenty and lots of practical challenges within the Club we got through the AGM and watched a couple of films from film makers within the club that they had recently made - Some great films on display as always! Heres a couple of Stills from them films to feast your eyes upon!
